BHADERWAH HISTORY

Bhaderwah’s history stretches from ancient, prosperous states with destroyed cities (Dugga Nagar, Udha Nagar) to being ruled by native Pal clans, eventually becoming part of the J&K state in 1841,known for its rich cultural blend (Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims, Gaddi tribes) and its folklore linking it to Mahabharata times and “Nagon ki Bhoomi” (Land of Snakes). Key periods include its rule by native Ranas, influence from Kashmir, annexation by Chamba, and later incorporation into the Dogra kingdom, with its history documented in texts like Rajatarangini and local traditions.
